FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT BY HON. DR. THOMAS WINSUM ANABAH, MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR GARU CONSTITUENCY
Date: 20/10/2025
STATEMENT ON THE SHOOTING INCIDENT AT THE NHIA OFFICE IN GARU
I have received with deep shock and sorrow the tragic news of the shooting incident that occurred near the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Garu, which has claimed the lives of four innocent persons.
This heinous and senseless act of violence has no place in our community. I strongly condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the actions of the perpetrators who have brought pain and grief to families and plunged our constituency into mourning.
My heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families, especially those of the Werchengo Chief, Jacob Anaasa, the Headmaster of Garu D/A Junior High School, Mr Yahaya Bukari, the NHIA staff member, and the other young victim from Sumaduri, who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident. I also wish to extend my sympathy to all affected members of the community during this difficult time.
I wish to assure the people of Garu that I am in close contact with the security agencies to ensure that swift and thorough investigations are conducted to bring the culprits to justice. Measures are also being taken to strengthen security in the area to prevent the recurrence of such acts of terror.
As a people, we must remain calm, united, and vigilant while supporting the efforts of the police and other security agencies. Let us not allow fear or anger to divide us but rather draw strength from our shared values of peace, solidarity, and mutual respect.
May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may the Almighty comfort their families and all who mourn them.
Hon. Dr. Thomas Winsum Anabah
Member of Parliament, Garu Constituency
