The newly inaugurated Board of the Energy Commission, led by Board Chairman, Professor John Gatsi, held its maiden meeting with the Staff of the commission to officially introduce the Board Members to them as they presented their vision for the Commission on Friday, 3rd October, 2025.
The Board pledged its support to staff to ensure the Commission’s core mandate as a regulator guided by Act 541 when it comes to strategies to mitigate difficulties.
The engagement, among other things, focused on staff welfare and capacity building, asset management and financial soundness, maintaining corporate discipline, and a harmonious working environment.
To effectively and efficiently execute its mandate in line with its vision, both the board and the staff agreed on a roadmap to open selected regional offices to enhance visibility for the Commission’s work, accessibility, and to again deal with the challenges confronting the Commission at all levels.
The board also announced strengthening the legal department as a license and regulatory institution, as well as a functioning inspectorate directorate. The board received inputs from staff and later from the Union in a separate session. Staff called for fairness, transparency, and an audit of the human resources of the Commission.
