In a groundbreaking move towards modernizing education, the Ministry of Education has announced that Ghana will host its first-ever national conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) scheduled for November 2025.
This landmark event aims to explore the opportunities, challenges, and strategic pathways for integrating AI into the country’s educational landscape.
The conference will bring together government officials, educators, technology experts, students, and development partners to discuss how Ghana can effectively prepare for the disruptions and advancements driven by AI. Key topics on the agenda include developing policies for AI adoption, fostering innovation, and ensuring that Ghana’s youth are equipped with the skills necessary for a rapidly evolving digital economy.
During the announcement, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education, emphasized the importance of embracing technology to shape the future of learning in Ghana. He made the declaration at the commissioning of a teachers’ accommodation facility at Accra Girls Senior High School last Wednesday, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and digitization.
A central focus of the conference will be the introduction of foundational technology subjects into the basic education curriculum. The Ministry recognizes that early exposure to AI and related fields can inspire innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving among Ghanaian students. By embedding these subjects into early education, Ghana aims to cultivate a generation capable of leveraging AI for national development.
Minister Iddrisu reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to digitizing education and preparing students for a technology-driven future. “Our goal is to ensure that every Ghanaian student has access to quality, modern education that prepares them for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century,” he stated.
As Ghana positions itself at the forefront of technological advancement in Africa, this initiative underscores a broader national vision: to harness AI not only as a tool for economic growth but also as a catalyst for inclusive and innovative education. The upcoming conference marks a significant step toward realizing that vision, promising a future where Ghanaian learners are globally competitive and digitally literate.
