John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition visited the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and its subsidiary, GNPC Explorco as part of his ongoing tour of agencies
The tour has offered him the opportunity to assess the progress of the upstream petroleum development and discuss the challenges facing the sector.
He commended the dedication and hard work of the GNPC and Explorco teams, who are working tirelessly to drive Ghana’s upstream petroleum development forward. Emphasizing the need for intensified efforts to address the decline in our oil production.
Ghana’s oil production has been on a downward trend, posing significant risks to the country’s energy security. To mitigate this challenge, the Minister urged GNPC and Explorco to take the lead in exploring new oil fields, boosting our reserves, and ensuring a stable energy supply for the future.
During the meeting with the CEOs of GNPC, Kwame Ntow Amoah, and GNPC Explorco, Sam Arthur, the Sector Minister was assured of their commitment to delivering on this mandate. They outlined plans to drive innovation, strengthen partnerships, and build capacity to achieve the desired outcomes.
“As a Ministry, we will continue to provide support to GNPC and Explorco to help them build a strong and globally competitive upstream petroleum sector. This includes providing resources, expertise, and policy guidance to enable them to achieve their objectives” he said.
The visit to GNPC and Explorco was a crucial step in our efforts to revitalize Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector. “We are committed to working closely with these agencies to tackle the challenges facing the sector and ensure a stable and secure energy supply for the future”.
By working together, “we can unlock the full potential of Ghana’s oil resources and drive economic growth and development for the benefit of all Ghanaians”.
