The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has presented food items and a cash donation to the Greater Accra Market Association to support the association’s Christmas celebrations and welfare activities.
The items, which were presented by the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, to executives of the Association on Christmas Eve, included bags of rice and bottles of cooking oil.
Presenting the items, the Mayor expressed appreciation to the association for its contribution to the daily life of the city and the role market leadership continues to play in supporting commerce and order within major trading centres, particularly Makola.
He said the donation formed part of efforts to ensure market women and men celebrated the season while deepening collaboration with organised trader groups in the city.
The Mayor noted that the Assembly remained committed to working closely with the association to promote a cleaner, safer and more vibrant Accra, adding that market stakeholders were essential partners in delivering improved sanitation, public safety and better market management.
