The Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) will on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, convene its maiden high-level Stakeholders’ Roundtable Meeting to deepen community participation in the management and operations of the James Town Fishing Harbour.
The meeting, to be held at the Accra City Hall under the theme “Inclusive Management of the James Town Fishing Harbour: Empowering Ga Mashie for a Sustainable Blue Economy,” is expected to bring together key institutions, traditional authorities, civil society organisations, academia, private sector actors, and relevant harbour stakeholders.
According to a statement issued by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), the event forms part of broader efforts to promote inclusive governance and a sustainable blue economy for the Ga Mashie community.
The Assembly indicated that the roundtable would be attended by the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, as well as the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Emelia Arthur. Other dignitaries expected include the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, Members of Parliament, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and officials from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
AMA explained that the forum would serve as a platform for constructive dialogue on key concerns raised by the community regarding the newly completed harbour. These concerns, the statement said, include employment quotas for Ga Mashie indigenes, reallocation of market stalls to fishmongers displaced during construction, and the outsourcing of critical harbour services—such as security, cleaning, and sanitation—to community-based enterprises through GAMADA.
The Assembly added that discussions would also focus on securing adequate community representation on the Harbour Management Board and developing additional measures aimed at ensuring equity, fairness, and long-term sustainability in harbour operations.
