The Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced a significant milestone in the Nkokor Nketenkete Programme, with 13,000 farmers in 12 districts receiving 720,000 birds as part of a pilot initiative.
The programme aims to support backyard poultry production and increase local egg production.
The selected districts include Tamale Metro, Wa Municipal, Nanton, Savelugu, Mion, Krachi East, Bawku West, West Gonja, Nandom, Sissala East, East Mamprusi, and Mamprugu Moagduri. Battery cages were distributed to the farmers to enhance their production capacity.
The success of the pilot Programm has led to plans for a full rollout across the country over the next four weeks.
This initiative is expected to contribute to Ghana’s agricultural growth and improve the livelihoods of farmers involved in the program.
