The Tema Metropolitan Assembly has elected Kojo Ofori Joseph as its new Presiding Member, securing an overwhelming endorsement from Assembly Members and Government Appointees.
At a duly convened meeting of the Assembly, two nominations were filed for the position. Hon. Kojo Ofori Joseph was proposed by Anthony Sam Annom and seconded by Godsway Dzene. Hon. Lasisi Baba Tunde was also nominated, with Albert K. Mensah as proposer and Joseph Amisah as seconder.
In a show of unity and collegiality, Hon. Lasisi Baba Tunde stepped down in support of Hon. Kojo Ofori Joseph. However, in line with the Assembly’s procedures and statutory requirements, a vote was conducted to validate the candidature.
Following the balloting process by Assembly Members, Government Appointees also exercised their franchise. At the end of the exercise, Mr. Ofori Joseph polled 31 out of 32 eligible votes, representing a near-unanimous endorsement, and was duly declared elected Presiding Member.
He was subsequently sworn into office by the Regional Commander, who administered the Oath of Office and the Oath of Allegiance to the Republic of Ghana.
Earlier, the Mayor of Tema, Ebi Bright, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Presiding Member, Boakye Sobre, for what she described as a cordial and progressive working relationship that strengthened cooperation within the Assembly and advanced the development agenda of the metropolis.
In his acceptance speech, Kojo Ofori Joseph thanked members of the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to uphold transparency, inclusiveness and unity in the discharge of his duties, and assured members of his readiness to work collaboratively with the Mayor, Assembly Members, Government Appointees and key stakeholders to deepen participatory governance and accelerate development across the municipality.
The election marks a new chapter in the Assembly’s governance, with renewed commitment towards responsive leadership and collective progress.
