With the issue of unemployment in the country increasing by the day, and staring particularly at the youth, many are those who have turned their attention to the security for recruitment.

However, The Interior Minister, Alhaji Mohammed-Mubara Mutaka has painted a gloomy situation of this condition.

According to him, the recent advertised recruitment for the security agencies- The Police, the Prison Service, The Fire Service, and the Immigration Service can accommodate only five thousand (5000) people.

However, applications received so far run over half a million. And, from this number comes those slated for examinations, body selections etc.

The Minister at the News Conference disclosed that, the total number of police from the IGP to the last recruit/Constable is Forty-Nine Thousand (49,000), however, the new recruitment can accommodate only Two Thousand (2,000) people.

Strangely enough, the advertised recruitment exercise has attracted over One Hundred and Forty (140,00) applicants.

Touching on the Fire Service, he indicated that total population of the Service it’s about Eighteen Thousand, (18,000) people but the applicants exceeded over One Hundred Thousand (100,000).

Regarding, the Prisons Service and The Immigration, with the total number of Seventeen Thousand (17,000), Four Thousand (4. 000) respectfully, the recruitment in numbers were no different from those afore-mentioned.

He appealed to the youth, who in their numbers are yearning for these opportunities to exercise restraints since the situation is not all that unsurmountable.

According to him IMF Programme, and lack of funds notwithstanding, government will resort to appropriate ways of solving the problems of the youth when it comes to job opportunities.
