Former MP for Obom Domeabra, Sophia Akuoku has been appointed as Ghana’s Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Norway, marking a significant milestone in her distinguished public service career.
Her appointment, announced by the Presidency, forms part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle aimed at strengthening Ghana’s foreign relations and advancing strategic partnerships across Europe.
As Ambassador-designate to Norway, Hon. Akuoku is expected to deepen bilateral ties between Ghana and the Kingdom of Norway, particularly in the areas of trade, energy, maritime cooperation, climate action, education, and sustainable development.
Norway remains one of Ghana’s key development partners, with longstanding collaboration in governance reforms, petroleum sector management, renewable energy initiatives, and environmental sustainability programs.
Hon. Akuoku brings to the role a wealth of experience in governance, leadership, and public administration. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her commitment to national development, advocacy, and effective representation.
In her new diplomatic capacity, she will represent Ghana’s interests in Norway while promoting investment opportunities, cultural exchange, and enhanced economic cooperation between the two nations.
Political observers say her appointment reflects government’s confidence in her ability to project Ghana’s image positively on the international stage and attract mutually beneficial partnerships.
She is expected to undergo the necessary parliamentary vetting and approval processes before officially assuming duty at Ghana’s Embassy in Oslo.
