The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has appealed to newly posted medical doctors to accept and report to their various duty posts.
Reacting to reports of poor acceptance by the doctors across the country as of last Friday,
November 28, 2025, the Minister clarified that the postings should not be seen as punishment, rather a call to duty.
He said the posting was executed on need-based to ensure the entire country is served.
“I wish to state that the government’s policy to send medical doctors into the districts should not be misconstrued or be seen as punishment. It should be seen as an equitable distribution of our health force; and we’re posting our medical doctors where they are needed most.”
He, however, expressed confidence that these newly posted medical doctors will respond to the call to save and serve mother Ghana.
He indicated that though Upper East and West have both recorded zero by way of the doctors reporting at post as of Friday, they are willing to give them additional one week for them to report at their various facilities where they were posted to; after which they will carry out validation.
He stated emphatically, however, that the Ministry would not condone requests for changes in the postings.
“Unfortunately, there is no way we’re going to change anything here; unfortunately, and so we’ll give them one whole week to report to their various facilities.”
The Minister pledged to continue engaging various stakeholders in their respective areas of work, including District Chief Executive, Members of Parliament, Chiefs, Regional Ministers, to facilitate their stay in the districts, particularly by way of providing them with accommodation so that they will be comfortable enough to give off their best.
He added that the government is also exploring ways to provide incentives to motivate them.
