The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) last Wednesday hosted a delegation from the National Vaccine Institute (NVI) as part of a learning visit to share best practices and strengthen institutional performance.
The visit was to understudy the operations of the Chief Executive Secretariat and explore systems that could be adapted to enhance leadership, strategy, and administrative efficiency at the NVI.
Chief Executive of the NVI, Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, described the engagement as insightful and beneficial, noting that the delegation gained valuable lessons from NHIA’s operational structure.
“We came to learn from what is working, and there is a lot to learn from NHIA,” he said.
Responding to the delegation, the Chief Executive of NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, underscored the importance of collaboration and shared learning among public sector institutions.
“There are things we can learn from each other, and it is important that we support one another,” he stated.
Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive, Ms. Nina Amoah-Buabeng, led the discussions on the workings of the Chief Executive’s secretariat and how it supported strategic planning, policy direction, and informed decision-making at the Authority. She reiterated the innovative changes, including technology, that have been introduced at the secretariat to make the environment conducive for productive working.
The Acting Director of the Corporate Affairs Directorate, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah, explained that the Authority has prioritized documenting the Chief Executive’s leadership journey and activities to ensure key milestones and institutional progress are properly captured. He added that the Directorate worked very closely with the CEO’s secretariat to bring visibility to the works of the Chief Executive and also facilitated stakeholder engagement sessions to bring together key partners, address concerns, and communicate the Chief Executive’s vision and achievements since assuming office.
Board Secretary to the NHIA Board, Mr. Harold Boateng, further noted that the Secretariat serves as a critical link between Management and the Governing Board, adding that NHIA’s progress is built on years of strong leadership and institutional cooperation.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Sodzi-Tettey expressed appreciation to NHIA for the engagement, describing it as worthwhile and impactful.
