Deputy Minister of Communications launches SSNIT’s Virtual Branch
The Deputy Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu (MP) has launched the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Virtual Branch, describing the initiative as a major step toward modernising public service delivery and expanding access to pension services for all workers.
Speaking on behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), at the launch held at the forecourt of the Virtual Branch car park in Accra, the Deputy Minister said the digital platform aligns with government’s broader agenda to build an inclusive, technology-driven economy under the President, H. E. John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy and National Reset vision.
He noted that the Virtual Branch reflects government’s commitment to ensuring that essential services are accessible conveniently, efficiently and with dignity, anytime and anywhere, especially in a rapidly evolving world of work.
Hon. Sukparu highlighted ongoing investments by government in digital infrastructure, including broadband expansion, strengthened cybersecurity systems, improved digital identification and enhanced interoperability across public platforms, which are enabling institutions like SSNIT to innovate, reduce costs and improve service delivery.
He stressed that the growth of the gig economy, remote work and digital freelancing requires pension institutions to adapt to meet contributors where they are—on mobile devices and digital platforms. According to him, the SSNIT Virtual Branch responds directly to this reality and positions the Scheme to remain relevant to a new generation of contributors.
The platform, he said, also brings gig workers, freelancers, artisans, small business owners and digital creators—many of whom operate outside traditional employment structures—closer to the pension system, increasing convenience, transparency and confidence in the Scheme.
Describing a strong pension system as critical to national stability, the Deputy Minister said the Virtual Branch reinforces trust in SSNIT by assuring workers that their contributions are being managed responsibly and their future secured.
He commended the SSNIT Board, management and staff for embracing innovation and demonstrating that public service can be modern, responsive and forward-looking. He also urged organised labour, employers and the media to promote the platform and encourage workers, particularly those in the gig and informal sectors, to begin contributing to the Scheme as soon as they start earning.
