The Government of Ghana has announced a national tragedy following the crash of a military helicopter this morning in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region, resulting in the loss of 8 prominent officials and military personnel, including two ministers of State.
Representing President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang — who is present here — and the entire government, Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who perished.
The fallen include:
– Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
– Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed (MP), Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
– Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
– Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
– Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
– Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala
– Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
– Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
In recognition of their service, all flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice. The government extends its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.
