Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, was awarded the Policy Impact Award at the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) Inauguration of New Executives and Awards Night in Accra on April 10, 2026.

GUTA commended Dr. Asiama’s leadership in controlling inflation and stabilizing the Cedi, saying his efforts have been instrumental in Ghana’s economic progress. Bernard Otabil, Director of Communications, and Aimee Quashie, Secretary of the Bank, received the award on the Governor’s behalf.

Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has been recognized for his efforts in stabilizing Ghana’s economy as well as his role in controlling inflation and stabilizing the Ghana Cedi.
Dr. Asiama in his recent public commentary highlighted the challenges of balancing growth and inflation, noting that reducing inflation from 23.8% in December 2024 to 5.4% in December 2025 came at a significant cost to the central bank.
However, he expressed optimism that maintaining stability in 2026 would require fewer resources.
The Governor emphasized the importance of a strong financial sector, stating, “When banks are strong, they can give more credit.”
He also assured the business community that the central bank aims to strengthen the markets.
