The Volta Regional Minister James Gunu has directed both ECG and GRIDCo to take immediate steps to address the low voltage and outages in the Region.
He further directed the two entities as matter of importantl hold a joint press conference to explain the current situation and ongoing efforts to the people.
He said, “as your Regional Minister, I remain committed to ensuring transparency and timely solutions to challenges affecting each and every single person in the Region”,.
The Minister on Tuesday 15th April, 2025I paid a surprise visit to the Volta Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Ho to ascertain the increasing concerns of residents across the Region over persistent low voltage and unannounced power outages.
Meeting the management and the staff, the Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of power supply in the Region stressing the fact that “these challenges have not only disrupted businesses, lives and livelihoods but have also gone largely unexplained”.
He also questioned the management on the cause of these issues and emphasized the urgent need for regular and transparent communication with the public.
The Regional General Manager, Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, explained that the situation is due to the voltage levels being supplied by GRIDCo.
She however, assured me that ECG is working closely with GRIDCo to resolve the issue and restore stable power to our communities.
Moving forward, Mr. Gunu urged ECG to prioritize public engagement so that the good people of the Volta Region are kept informed about developments that affect them.
The Minister later proceeded to GRIDCo office in Akosombo to gain further insight into the persistent power challenges facing the Volta Region.
He was received by Eugene Koranteng, Sectional Head, and later spoke with Job Aziaku, the Area Manager, who was in a meeting in Tema.
