President John Mahama has appointed Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, as Acting Defence Minister, and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, to temporarily oversee the Environment, Science and Technology Ministry.
This move follows the tragic helicopter crash on August 6 that resulted in the deaths of Defence Minister Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Murtala Mohammed.
In an official statement, the presidency announced that President Mahama requested Ato Forson and Mr. Buah to assume these additional roles. No specific timeframe was provided for these interim appointments.
The statement read:
“President John Dramani Mahama has asked the Minister for Finance, Hon Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to take on additional responsibility as Defence Minister. The President has also asked the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, to act as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology until further notice.”
