A delegation from the University for Development Studies (UDS) paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, to discuss issues in relation to the 2025 FISU tournament on Thursday 22nd May, 2025,
The meeting was to officially inform and brief the Minister about the 2025 FISU University World Cup, at which the UDS would represent Ghana and Africa.
The Sports Minister lauded UDS for securing the slot for the FISU World Cup 2025, describing it as a strategic opportunity to prepare and showcase Ghana on the continental level to boost tourism and sports development.
He expressed confidence that the Ministry would collaborate with the University to make their travel and participation successful.
According to him, preparation and determination are always the best tools for success, and he advised the team to train or prepare well as the tournament approaches.
The Minister assured the delegation that he would engage corporate Ghana to support the UDS team to embark on the tournament.
“I am happy UDS is the football champions in Ghana and Africa, and also the university has been selected to represent us at the world ‘’ he stated.
During the meeting, the UDS delegation was led by the Pro. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elliot Alhassan congratulated Honourable Kofi Adams on his recent appointment as the Minister for Sports and Recreation and officially informed the Minister on the upcoming Universities World Cup, also known as FISU World Cup 2025, to be held in Dalian, China, from September 17th – 28th 2025.
In Africa, the Ghana University for Development Studies (UDS) Men’s team booked their ticket to China at the end of a thrilling football tournament, stating that “UDS is representing Ghana and Africa as a whole.
According to him, this is the 3rd edition of the University Football World Cup and he further appealed to the Minister to support the team to be able to make it to China.
Prof. Alhassan, emphasized the need for improved sports facilities and infrastructure which would enhance the training of sports professionals and promote sports development in Ghana.
In attendance were Nurudeen Issah- Registrar, Shaibu Tanko, Director of Sports, Dr. Alhassan Iddissu, Director of Finance, A. Yussif- Head of Registry, and Abdul Moomen, Director of Public Affairs all from UDS.
Others were Michael Esuon, Director F&A, Mrs. Perpetual Tawiah, Director of Finance, Horen Quashigah, Deputy Director of RSIM and Wonder Mandel, Administrative Assistant to the Minister and Solomon Kusi Tetteh, Assistant Public Relations Officer all from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
