The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Baba Jamal, has emerged victorious in the Ayawaso East by-election held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, securing the parliamentary seat for his party.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created after the death of the Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, in January 2026.
The results from the EC siad Baba Jamal garnered 10,803 votes, representing 63.33% of the total valid votes cast.
His closest contender, Baba Ali Yussif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), polled 4,000 votes, accounting for 23.45%.
The three other candidates in the race collectively secured 2,254 votes (13.26%), while 122 ballots were rejected.
The March 3, 2026, by-election featured five candidates:

Baba Ali Yussif — NPP
Ibrahim Iddrisu — Liberal People’s Party (LPP)
Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda — Independent.
