The Parliament of Ghana witnessed another historic moment on Tuesday, 10th March, 2026 as Speaker Alban Bagbin has officially swore in Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed as the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The ceremony took place at the beginning of today’s sitting, marking a new chapter for the constituency and the NDC majority in Parliament.
As Baba Jamal took the oath of office and allegiance, the Speaker handed him copies of the Constitution and Standing Orders—tools designed to guide his legislative responsibilities.
In his address, Mr. Speaker emphasized accountability, urging the new MP to serve diligently and transparently, especially in the area of public health beyond Nima.
Amidst the ceremonial proceedings, attention was drawn to the government’s ambitious health agenda, recently articulated through the launch of the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) policy. This landmark initiative aims to remove financial barriers and expand access to essential health services across Ghana, particularly in underserved and rural communities like those in Ayawaso East.
“Health is a cornerstone of national development,” the Speaker stated. “As we welcome Hon. Baba Jamal to this esteemed House, I remind him—and indeed all of us—that our collective efforts must prioritize the well-being of our people.
The government’s recent reforms, including the phased rollout of free primary health care, are designed to ensure that no Ghanaian is left behind when it comes to health services.”
Leaders from both parliamentary caucuses expressed their support and urged Baba Jamal to champion these reforms within his constituency. They highlighted the importance of equitable access, preventive care, and community-centered service delivery—principles at the heart of the new health policy.
