The Minister of Sports & Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, on Sunday led a delegation comprising officials from the Ministry, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Black Stars coach Otto Addo, and various supporters’ unions to a thanksgiving service at the Trinity United Church, Legon.
The special service was held to offer thanks to God for His protection and guidance throughout for the Black Stars’ successful qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addressing the congregation, Hon. Kofi Adams expressed profound gratitude to Ghanaians for their unwavering support for the national teams, especially during challenging times. He urged citizens to continue to uphold the nation in prayer and to remember all national teams that strive to bring glory to Ghana on the international stage.
Hon. Adams also took the opportunity to commend the leadership and dedication of Coach Otto Addo, noting his instrumental role in guiding the Black Stars to their fifth World Cup appearance. He highlighted that Otto Addo’s experience, having been part of the team during Ghana’s historic first World Cup in 2006, continues to inspire both players and fans alike.
The Minister further acknowledged Coach Addo’s mother, whose suggestion informed the choice of venue for the thanksgiving service, describing it as a fitting place to celebrate Ghana’s footballing milestone.
The event, held under the theme “Called Out, Sent Out” (1 Peter 2:1–17), featured a powerful sermon delivered by the Very Rev. Dr. J. A. Quashie, who emphasized the importance of service to humanity. He reminded the congregation that God calls people not only to faith but also to serve one another and meet the needs of their communities.
The thanksgiving service brought together football administrators, clergy, supporters, and members of the sporting fraternity, all united in gratitude and hope as the nation looks ahead to the global football showpiece in 2026.
