Leadership of Millennium Marathon Calls on Sports and Recreation Minister

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, today, 15th April, 2025, received a delegation from Millennium Marathon, organizers of the annual Millennium Marathon competition in Ghana.

Noting the purpose of the meeting, the Race Director of the organization, Mrs. Catherine Morton congratulated the Hon. Minister on his appointment as Minister for Sports and Recreation and his steadfast leadership in promoting Sports and Recreation which is a good pillar for national development.

According to her, this year’s competition will attract not less than 10,000 participants from Ghana and across the world and noted the various additions made to enhance this year’s competition.

She stated that as part of the competition, the organization has considered rolling out humanitarian assistance to the people living in the Korle Klottey constituency, the area that hosts the competition, and will provide their corporate social responsibility at Osu and its environs.

She took the opportunity to officially invite the Minister to the upcoming launch of the event, which is scheduled for Tuesday, 22nd April, 2025, at the media centre of the Accra Sports Stadium, with the main competition scheduled for 6th September, 2025.

She added that the 5,000 metres race is sanctioned by the World Athletics and has been recognized on their calendar as a ranking event, indicating the growth of the event over the past few years in the country.

On his part, the Minister commended the team for the good initiative to help elevate sports to the highest height and advised them to also turn their support to what directly affects athletics like the provision of running boots and other logistics needed in the sport especially for grassroots development.

He indicated his readiness to support the sport through collaboration to build the capacity of officials as well as the athletes themselves.
