The Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs has embarked on a three-day familiarization visit to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and its agencies to acquaint itself with the various agencies and also be updated on the operations and challenges they face.
The Committee held its first meeting at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, where the sector Minister Eric Opoku, and his Deputy, John Dumelo briefed the Committee on the Ministry’s operations, including the Feed Ghana program and plans for focusing mainly on irrigation agriculture and the improvement of poultry farming.
The Minister mentioned some of the challenges of the Ministry as decentralization laws, lack of modern tractors, limited number of warehouses, and the need for extension officers.
Subsequently, the Committee visited the West African Food System Resilience Project (FSRP) and were welcomed by the Project Coordinator for FCSR, Mr. OSEI Owusu Agyemang along with his team who gave a brief overview of their operations.
The Chairman of the Committee, Jasaw Seidu Godfred, expressed his admiration for the works of the organizations.
He assured both the Ministry and the FSRP organization that the visit would become more frequent and that the Committee looks forward to further engagements.
