In a bid to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices, Cabinet on Thursday, 9th April, 2026 has banned fuel allowances for all ministers and senior government officials.
The move comes as the government attempts to cushion citizens from the effects of a recent fuel price hike.
The Cabinet has directed the Ministers for Finance and Energy to remove certain taxes and margins on fuel, effective from the next pricing window, in about a week.
This measure is expected to lower pump prices for an initial period of four weeks.
To provide relief to commuters, 100 newly acquired buses will be deployed for the Metro Mass Bus Company, with lower fares than private operators.
President John Dramani Mahama emphasized the government’s commitment to making transport more affordable for Ghanaians.
