Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Trade and Industry, and MP for Central Tongu, Alexander Roosevelt Hottordze has praised the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) efforts, saying they’re sending a positive signal to potential investors.
Addressing issues raised in the Auditor General’s reports in an interview with fmnewsonline.com in Parliament, the Trade Committee Chair said PAC is “serious with ongoing public hearing”, promoting accountability and transparency when it comes to good governance in Ghana.
“The PAC’s work shows we’re serious about good governance,” the MP noted.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Ghana’s Parliament is doing great work in the sense that, “this is boosting investor confidence and showing Ghana is open for business.”
The ongoing public hearing in Parliament for the year ending 31st December, 2924, is to examine the Auditor-General’s reports, focusing on issues like procurement irregularities, financial mismanagement and other infractions.
According to Mr. Hottordze, activities of PAC are seen as a positive step towards attracting investors to Ghana, as they demonstrate the country’s commitment to good governance and fiscal discipline.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Ghana’s Parliament has been making strides in promoting accountability and transparency in government operations.
Recently, they’ve recovered GH¢12.9 billion in misapplied public funds, a significant milestone in the country’s fight against financial mismanagement and corruption.
The Auditor-General’s reports have also highlighted areas for improvement, with financial irregularities decreasing by 32% in 2023, totaling GH¢11.32 billion.
However, the Energy Ministry accounted for 86% of public sector irregularities in 2024, indicating persistent challenges, a situation Mr. Hottordze found disturbing and challenging as a nation.
