How often have you heard both opposition politicians and parties, and the incumbent party express trust in and commend an IGP and his men ahead of, during and after a by-election in Ghana?
Be observant. Today, both the NDC and NPP are not threatening building their own private party security teams to protect their votes for them. NPP’s Paul Yandoh has rather deviated from his usual comedy lines to commend the IGP and the Ghana Police for demonstrating exceptional professionalism.
This is the contract H.E. John Dramani extended to reset the Police Service.
Today, the officers who took bribes as low as ghs5 on the streets are rejecting $20,000 bribes, does not that tell you something has changed? He is using special promotions to inspire integrity and professionalism in the Service.
Serious drug Smugglings are being exposed. Hardened armed robbers are being arrested. And, even old cases such as the Adabraka gold robbery case has seen the suspected arrested.
IGP Christian Tetteh Yohunu is conspicuously producing results that speak progress and impact even without carrying media cameras to capture every moment.
Right from the Headquarters to the grassroots, at Aveyime, in the Volta Region, and Kuottam Police Command in the Abokobi – Ayi Mensah District, his high operational standards can be observed.
We saw how Chief Inspector Johnson Tawia Annang of the Kuottam Police Command, and his men expertly drove that standard setting professional police operations picking up the suspects in the Kuottam Estate robbery case like snails from Lakeside to Nkrumah Circle.
So, the IGP’s work is not felt only at the top. It is even seen at the smallest unit at the grassroots which, even lacks vehicles and other logistics. It is officers like these that he has decided to use the special recommendations to motivate regardless of their backgrounds.
The operations man does not care whether he is liked or not. All he cares about is that Ghana is safe, and secured for all, at all times. So, high professional performers with integrity are his families and friends.
His recent reshuffle may have ruffled some furthers. That is his first since he came to office, an indication that he was not in hurry to reshuffle his men. He studied his team with insight and executed his mandate with objectives and vision of the Service in mind.
To IGP Yuhonu, everything is about Ghana and Ghanaians with the welfare of his staff in focus. Without his men, he cannot deliver his mandate. Hence, he is committed to their welfare with a high sense of justice and equity.
The IGP has promoted a total of 12,802 police officers between January to the first week of February 2026.
This elevation, which ranged from Lance Corporals to Chief Inspectors, is a backlog of promotions with many dating back to the last five to 10 years.
“our men are sacrificing a lot for this country. So, they also deserve to be treated fairly, and that is what we are doing for everyone, no matter their background,” the Police Secretariat reasoned.
