The Member of Parliament for Wa East, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has rolled out the maiden phase of the Wa East Tertiary Students Scholarship Scheme (WESTESS), awarding scholarships to 41 deserving students from the constituency.
The initiative, funded through the MP’s Common Fund, forms part of efforts to empower the youth, nurture academic excellence and accelerate development in the Wa East Constituency.

The beneficiaries, drawn from various tertiary institutions across the country, are pursuing programmes in critical fields including Law, Civil Engineering, Medicine, Computer Science, and Science Laboratory-related courses—areas the MP considers vital to building a prosperous and self-reliant district.
Speaking at the presentation, Dr. Jasaw described the scholarship as an investment in human capital, stressing that education remains a key driver of sustainable development.

He also announced plans to expand the scheme in its second phase, which will offer partial support to students pursuing other programmes, thereby widening access to educational opportunities for more young people in the constituency.
The District Chief Executive for Wa East, Hon. Sayibu Adamu, commended the MP for the initiative, urging the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make the most of the opportunity. He encouraged them to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to the development of the district.
The launch of the WESTESS Scholarship is expected to promote academic excellence, inspire innovation and empower the next generation of leaders, reinforcing Wa East’s drive toward growth and long-term development.
