Torgbui Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli Traditional Area, had the honor of participating in the vibrant Asogli Women’s Day Celebration held at the GM Afeti Auditorium. The event, chaired by Ambassador Sena Siaw-Boateng, brought together women from across the region to celebrate their contributions and promote empowerment.
The gathering was marked by inspiring speeches and cultural displays, emphasizing the crucial role women play in societal development. The event’s Guest of Honour was originally scheduled to be Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, but she was represented by Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
The event served as an educational platform, highlighting the challenges faced by women while also exploring opportunities for greater participation in leadership and nation-building. Torgbui Afede commended all participants and organizers for making the celebration meaningful and inspiring.
As the event concluded, attendees left motivated to continue championing the cause of women. The message was clear: when women rise, nations prosper. The Asogli Women’s Day Celebration reaffirmed the community’s commitment to empowering women and promoting inclusive development.
Attendees included prominent figures such as James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister; Amed Ibrahim, Minister of Local Government and Religious Affairs; Stephen Adom, MCE of Ho Central; and Prosper Bani, Security Adviser to the President. Traditional leaders, including Mamaga Akua Dei II, Paramount Queen of Asogli, along with chiefs and queen mothers, also graced the event.
The celebration featured a lively cooking competition sponsored by Promasidor, producers of Onga. Participants showcased their culinary creativity using yam as the main ingredient, preparing dishes like yam fufu (Tefufu), yam cake, yam pizza, and yam meat pie. The competition highlighted the versatility of yams in Ghanaian cuisine and demonstrated innovation among local cooks.
