The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has encouraged young women in Ghana to take charge of their financial future rather than relying solely on wealthy men for support.
Speaking as the guest speaker at a Singles’ Summit organized by the Faith Disciples International Church at Lashibi on September 22, 2025, the MP stressed the need for women to work hard, acquire skills, and explore business and corporate opportunities. She said financial independence would not only empower women but also enable them to stand by their partners during times of financial difficulty.
Hon. Gyan Cudjoe further noted that men should take pride in being with financially independent women, as such relationships foster mutual respect. She added that hardworking women are more likely to earn admiration, since their partners would confidently introduce them to friends, colleagues, and family without any sense of embarrassment.
She concluded by urging young people to focus on self-reliance, saying Ghana’s future will be brighter if its youth learn to create jobs and opportunities instead of waiting for them.
The Amenfi Central legislator is widely known for her advocacy on youth empowerment and women’s economic participation. Since entering Parliament, she has championed several initiatives aimed at training young people in entrepreneurial skills and improving access to financial support for women-led businesses.
At the summit, participants welcomed her message, describing it as timely and inspiring. Many of the young women in attendance said her words had challenged them to think differently about financial independence and to see self-reliance as a path to dignity and respect.
