The Energy Commission of Ghana and the Environmental Protection Authority hosted the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to discuss Ghana’s participation in the US$40 million Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund (EERF)
Discussions focused on stakeholder engagement, financial models, and strategies to maximize impact and ensure measurable energy savings.
The Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ing. Eunice Biritwum, warmly welcomed the UNDP team and engaged them on potential partnerships, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to energy-efficient, low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) cooling solutions in hotels, supermarkets, and cold-chain logistics.

Key highlights included refrigerant transition projects, capacity building for technicians, and promoting local assembly of energy-efficient refrigerators.
The meeting reinforced the partnership between the Energy Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority as central to implementing the fund, ensuring compliance with the Kigali Amendment, and driving sustainable cooling solutions across Ghana.
The Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund (EERF) is a fund which focuses on financing mechanism that provides low-interest loans for energy-efficient, climate-friendly cooling technologies, with repayments recycled to support future projects.
