The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated a 10-member panel of energy sector experts charged with ensuring the continuous stability of the sector.
He urged them to strive to build a credible sector to attract investments and private sector participation, and also find ways to sustain gains made in the energy sector since the assumption of office.
The Minister expressed his confidence in their expertise and capabilities and pledged the Ministry’s support and guidance in their operations.
The panel, per the Energy Commission regulation 18 (L.I. 1937), is expected to monitor the general performance of the market administration functions of the Utility; it is also mandated to ensure the smooth operation of the wholesale electricity market.
The Minister further directed the team to also review the operations of the wholesale electricity market and studies related to the development of the market, as well as review procedures, manuals, and electricity market rules for the operation of the wholesale electricity market.
They have also been tasked to monitor pre-dispatch schedules, to resolve disputes referred to it by market participants in respect of transactions in the wholesale electricity market, and to ensure the effective and consistent application by the Utility of the rules and standards of the wholesale electricity market.
Chairman of the panel, Mr Samuel Kwadwo Sarpong, on his part, expressed his gratitude to the Minister and added that he is confident of the panel he is going to lead, considering their background and vast knowledge in the sector over the years.
He said the panel will be strictly guided by the newly approved market rules as well as existing policies and regulations in the sector.
The panel includes Mr Benard Modey, Madam Eunice Biritwum, Kisman A. Eghan, Frank A. Yeboah, Richard N.A. Badger, Frank A. Otchere, Kwame Kpekpena, Mark Baah, and Shafic Suleman.
