A five-day Conference of Heads of Mission and Orientation Programme for Newly Appointed Envoys of Ghana began today, 1st September 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda”.

The Conference, which will run until 5th September 2025, seeks to equip Heads of Mission and Newly Appointed Envoys with the necessary skills and tools to effectively carry out their duties in furthering the country’s foreign policy objectives, attracting investment, strengthening partnerships, and other related tasks.

Delivering his address, the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, tasked the Envoys to promote investment in Ghana’s priority sectors, including industrialization, renewable energy, digital services, agro-processing, infrastructure, and tourism. He further entreated them to manage the diplomatic missions with integrity, efficiency and professionalism. He emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in the discharge of their duties and work diligently to promote Ghana’s image further. The President also launched Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Heads of Mission, which is designed to ensure accountability and measurable results in Ghana’s diplomatic engagements.

The chairman for the ceremony H.R.M. King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse congratulated the newly appointed envoys and urged them to elevate Ghana’s image, promote trade and investment, and cultural diplomacy. He emphasized that the introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) marks a shift from ceremonial diplomacy to a result-driven approach.

On his part, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), outlined key reforms undertaken by the Ministry under the Reset Agenda to help advance Ghana’s Foreign Policy, such as 24-hour operations for Passports e-tracking, and delivery within 15 days, initiation of Labour Mobility Agreements, establishment of new diplomatic missions, shift from renting of landed properties to infrastructural development, creation of Delivery Unit to ensure compliance for KPI, among others. Mr.  Ablakwa assured that the Ministry would continue to provide the support needed for the Envoys to succeed in the discharge of their mandate.

Present at the Opening Ceremony were the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other high-ranking government officials.
