The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) and Denmark Embassy have reaffirmed their commitment to their robust and long-standing maritime partnership.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy call by the Danish Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jakob Linulf, on the Director General of the GMA, Dr Kamal-Deen Ali (Naval Capt (Rtd).
Central to the discussion were Ghana’s commitment to the National Green Voyage Plan and the national roadmap for a just transition in the maritime sector. Discussions also touched on the expansion of Ghana’s inland waterways, particularly the Volta Lake, improving navigation, and integrating them into the national transport network —a critical goal of the government’s Blue Economy strategy. Dr Ali emphasised Ghana’s keen interest in exploring the production of Green Fuels like Ammonia, an area industry leader like Maersk, as key global players could offer investment support to Ghana, thus helping in the creation of green jobs within the sector.
The DG also called on Denmark to open opportunities through Maersk for more qualified Ghanaian seafarers, aiming to position Ghana as an exporter of skilled maritime labour during the energy transition.
The Ambassador, Mr Linulf, said the partnership between Ghana and Denmark extends directly to human resource development and economic expansion, with the embassy committed to maintaining the technical collaborations in the enhancement of capacity and the promotion of the green shipping agenda.
The Director General said the GMA is committed to maintaining technical collaborations and fostering people-to-people relations with Denmark.
