The Member of Parliament for Daffiama/Bussie/Issa, Dr. Sebastian Sandaare, who led the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health to the Sunyani Regional Hospital has assured the staff of Government’s commitment to quality healthcare redelivery to all as he expressed satisfaction with the work of Doctors, Nurses and general staff, and Management.

He assured them of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment when it comes to healthcare and promised that the Committee will ensure that allocation of resources is distributed equally to all Hospitals.

In his remarks, the Regional Director of Health for Bono, Dr. Kwabena Kumi, has urgently suggested the building of a new Regional Hospital to support the efforts of other hospitals in delivering quality healthcare in the Bono Region.

According to the Health Director, since the upgrade of the then Regional Hospital to a Teaching Hospital, it has become necessary for a new Regional Hospital to cater for the needs of the people in terms of accessing a certain level of healthcare.

Dr. Kumi made this suggestion when Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health paid a working visit to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

He was of the view that an uncompleted 60-bed capacity facility at Odumasi in the Region could be completed and used as the Regional Hospital.

In his presentation to the Members of the Health Committee, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, Dr. Cardinal Newton, noted that the Hospital needs an infectious disease centre to augment the work of the Hospital.

Despite attaining the status of a Teaching Hospital, the Acting CEO listed several challenges, including lack of space, lack of modern equipment, overaged vehicles and infrastructure, and financial clearance to recruit new staff.

The MP for Pru East, Emmanuel Kweku Boam, and the MP for Lambussie, Prof. Titus Beyuo, advocated for an advanced accounting system and the use of information technology, respectively, to enhance the work of the Hospital.

The purpose of the visit was to ascertain the challenges and also develop strategies to support the Hospital to improve health care delivery.
