President Mahama:Peace in Bawku is a matter of national importance

Speaking at the Presidency during a courtesy call from a delegation of Mamprugu Chiefs who came to congratulate him on his 2024 victory, President John Dramani Mahama expressed deep concern: “Bawku, once a thriving commercial hub, is now a pale shadow of itself. Nobody is happy about this situation.”

He decried the sight of armed youth and the exodus of professionals, noting the conflict’s toll on everyone in the area and on national peace.

“I commend Naa-Yiri, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, for the concessions you are willing to make in order to see lasting peace in Bawku,” he said, urging all stakeholders to “speed up the mediation process.”

The government remains fully committed to ensuring safety and fostering dialogue. “We believe that peace in Bawku is a matter of national importance and requires our collective resolve,” he stated. I’ll
