The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has asked the security agencies to confiscate any medicine or drugs imported through the borders of Ghana. The only allowed entering point for importation of medicines or drugs is through Tema Harbour and Kotoka International Airport.
He made this known to the media after he was made known of the importation of opioids through the Tema Harbour this morning.
Hon Akandoh has alerted that, the confiscated opioids will be destroyed according to law.
Opioids, sometimes called narcotics, are medications prescribed by doctors to treat persistent or severe pain.
They are used by people with chronic headaches and backaches, by patients recovering from surgery or experiencing severe pain associated with cancer, and by adults and children who have gotten hurt playing sports or who have been seriously injured in falls, auto accidents, or other incidents.
