Ablekuma South MP supports Sickle Cell Patients at Korle Bu

Four (4) representatives from the Office of the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has supported the Ghana Institute of Clinical Genetics, Korle Bu, with food items to help improve the healthy diet of sickle cell patients.

This support is in response to the call by the Director of the Institute Dr. Amma Benneh Akwasi, Kuma advising sickle cell patients to eat more of vitamin C foods and proteins.

The delegation led by Pastor Charles Tetteh and supported by Director of Administration, Mr. Raymond Quartey, Director of Operations, Mr. William Amenuvor, Special Aide, and Mr. Kantab Aziz, Korle Bu Ward Coordinator, donated food items such as eggs and oranges.

They also reaffirmed Dr. Vanderpuije ‘s intention to make such donations a regular initiative to support the Ghana Institute of Clinical Genetics in delivering holistic patient care.

Receiving the donation, the Director of the Institute, Dr. Amma Benneh Akwasi-Kuma, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Vanderpuije and his team for responding to the urgent need for sickle cell patients to have a healthy diet. She acknowledged the positive impact of such gestures on patient morale and well-being and emphasized the importance of continued community support.

Dr. Benneh also took the opportunity to shed light on some of the department’s operational challenges, including difficulty in securing dedicated drivers to support logistical needs. She appealed for additional support to enhance the unit’s efficiency and service delivery.

The donated items were distributed to patients at both the Emergency Unit and the Outpatient Department (OPD), bringing smiles and comfort to many.
