Ghana’ Parliament has taken a significant step towards strengthening its immunization programme on formation and the official launch of the Parliamentary Caucus on Immunization and an engagement forum on domestic resource mobilization for vaccine financing.
The initiative aims to ensure sustainable funding and legislative oversight to maintain and expand immunization coverage across the country.
During the forum, Dr. Sandaare Ngmenenso Sandaare, Chairperson of the Caucus and Member of Parliament for Daffiama/Bussie/Issa, delivered a powerful support message emphasizing the importance of political commitment and bipartisan collaboration in safeguarding Ghana’s public health gains.
He expressed gratitude to the Mr. Speaker of Parliament for approving the formation of the caucus, recognizing immunization as a critical national development priority.
“Immunization saves millions of lives worldwide and has been central to improving child survival in Ghana. As donor support transitions and Gavi’s co-financing requirements increase, securing predictable domestic resources becomes imperative,” he stated.
The forum, organized by Hope for Future Generations (HFFG) in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Gavi, and other global health partners, underscores Ghana’s commitment to transitioning into self-financing for vaccines by January 2030. It also aligns with global initiatives such as Gavi’s 2026–2030 Investment Framework (Gavi 6.0), which aims to immunize an additional 500 million children worldwide and mobilize US$9 billion in new funding.
Hon. Sandaare reaffirmed the caucus’s priorities, including advocating for adequate domestic funding, strengthening oversight and accountability, fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration, and supporting legislative reforms to advance Ghana’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
“We are committed to ensuring every Ghanaian child has access to life-saving vaccines, and our caucus will work tirelessly with partners to make this a reality,” he concluded.

The launch of the caucus represents a milestone in institutionalizing legislative leadership in Ghana’s immunization efforts, with a focus on equity, sustainability, and resilience of the health system.
As Ghana moves forward, the caucus aims to turn these commitments into measurable outcomes, ensuring that immunization remains a cornerstone of the country’s health and development agenda.
On his part, the Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Health Mark Kurt Nawaane delivering a support message at the inauguration of the emphasized the importance of immunization as an effective public health tool vital for disease prevention and Universal Health Coverage.
He highlighted the need for predictable domestic funding amid declining external support and assured the committee’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure sustainable vaccine financing and equitable access.
He however, called on Parliament to unite in safeguarding the health of current and future generations and pledged the committee’s full support for the caucus’s success.
