The delegation, led by Jake Lumsden, Group Lead of DMA Invest, was received at the Ministry of Health as part of an ongoing UK-Ghana Trade Mission coordinated in partnership with the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce.

Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah outlined the Government of Ghana’s health investment priorities under the Mahama administration, focusing on three key pillars including, Health Financing – “Mahama Cares”: A newly introduced Ghana Medical Trust Fund designed to provide financial support for patients with Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, especially after they have exceeded their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) limits, Free Primary Health Care (FPHC): A policy aimed at ensuring early detection, prevention, and treatment of chronic diseases at the community level through the expansion and strengthening of CHPS compounds and rural outreach and Infrastructure & Retooling: A nationwide effort to upgrade medical facilities, expand oxygen infrastructure, improve equipment servicing and maintenance, and enhance diagnostic capacity.

The UK delegation expressed strong interest in aligning with Ghana’s health agenda, particularly in the areas of Local production of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and oxygen systems, vaccine manufacturing and pharmaceutical sovereignty, digital health systems, telemedicine, and AI for remote healthcare delivery and reviving and completing key health infrastructure projects such as the Komfo Anokye Maternity and Children’s Block.

Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah emphasized that Ghana is poised to “leapfrog with technology”, using innovative approaches to close access gaps and deliver quality healthcare, especially in rural and underserved communities.
