The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving full coverage under the government’s Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) initiative.
Speaking at the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana’s (PSGH) Annual General Meeting and Conference in Cape Coast, NHIA Deputy Chief Executive for Operations, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, said the Authority is determined to expand access and ensure that every Ghanaian benefits from essential health services. He represented the NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe.
Dr. Djokoto explained that the pharmacy’s proximity to communities makes it central to primary healthcare delivery. He added that NHIA is working to leverage this presence through digital initiatives such as the National Telehealth Service Authority (NeHSA) and the National Electronic Pharmacy Platform (NEPP), both expected to be fully operational by December 2025.
The conference, themed “Strengthening Pharmacy for Primary Health Care”, brought together policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders to discuss how pharmacy can support national health priorities.
