The Trauma and Orthopaedics Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has received its second C-Arm X-ray machine, enhancing its ability to perform more orthopaedic surgeries. The equipment, supplied by MedPoint, was officially handed over in a brief ceremony, attended by hospital management and key stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of the hospital’s CEO, Director of Administration Mr. Munir Alhassan expressed optimism about further collaboration with MedPoint. He noted that the hospital aims to equip all operating theatres with C-Arm machines to eliminate delays in surgery and improve patient care. He also revealed that plans are in place to acquire a third machine by mid-next year.

Dr. Frederick Kwarteng, Head of the Trauma and Orthopaedics Department, explained that the new machine is critical to the department’s operations, with approximately 80% of orthopaedic surgeries depending on it.

He stressed that without such equipment, orthopaedic practice at the hospital would be nearly impossible.

Dr. Kwarteng recalled past challenges when the hospital’s only C-Arm machine broke down, forcing them to refer patients to other hospitals. He praised the efforts of past and present administrators, including Mr. Frederick Addo-Yobo, in ensuring the department received both the first and now the second machines.
