The Eastern Regional Minister,, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has underscored the importance of inclusive digital innovation in driving sustainable development in Ghana. Speaking at the Regional Edition of the Ghana Digital Innovation Week (GDIW) in Koforidua, Mrs. Awatey highlighted the need for digital technologies to benefit all, particularly rural communities and marginalized groups. The event brought together stakeholders to discuss and celebrate digital innovation in Ghana.
She noted that the government is implementing policies to improve digital skills, increase connectivity, and develop digital infrastructure. These initiatives, according to her, include the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project, the National Digitalization Programme, and the Ghana Innovation and Research Commercialization Centre.
The Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to create a genuinely inclusive digital future. She urged the public and private sectors, academia, civil society, and youth to work together to provide access to financing, policy support, and digital infrastructure for innovators and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
The GIZ Head of Project, David Robert, emphasized the importance of embracing technology as a mindset to tackle pressing issues in governance, healthcare, education, and agriculture, and to use digital innovation as a tool to drive progress and inclusion.
The GDIW was themed “Driving Inclusive Digital Innovation for Ghana’s Sustainable Development.”
