Parliament has adopted the report of the Committee Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs on the 2025 budget estimates of the Minister of Food and Agriculture to approve the total sum of Two Billion, Nine Hundred and Four Million, Nine Hundred and Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty-One Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,904,904,981) to implement planned programmes and activities of Ministry for the 2025 financial year.
This a carefully examination of the budget estimates of the Ministry for the 2025 financial year and is was satisfied that the policies and programmes outlined for the year will go a long way to position agriculture as an anchor for the sustainable growth and development of the country.
In presenting the committee’s report at the plenary for debate, the chairman of the committee, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw on the budgetary allocation for the Ministry for the year under review observed that the sum of GH¢2,904,904,981 is made up of GH¢226,613,455 (7.8%), as compensation of employees, GH¢1,128,564,934 (38.85%) Goods and Services and GH¢1,549,726,592 (53.34%) as Capital Expenditure.
According to him, the allocation has a donor component of GH¢1,298,857,863, representing 44.7% of the total allocation to the Ministry.
On the issue of the Agribusiness Development Programme, efforts are being made to reduce heavy dependence on food imports, and accordingly, the Ministry has plans to undertake a number of activities including connecting graduates with opportunities in the agricultural value chain; Operationalizing the institutional commercial farms of the National Service Scheme and Youth Employment Agency; and to revamp the Amrahia Dairy Farm.
again the ministry aims to diversify agriculture under Agribusiness development into cash crops and livestock as a business, add value to existing commodities, and find a market for existing products while diversifying new ones.
