“Devastating rainstorm hits Liati Wote – urgent support needed”, these are the words from the MP for Afadzato South, Frank Afriyie as a violent rainstorm struck Liati Wote, a cherished community known for housing Mount Afadja (Afadjato), Ghana’s highest mountain, and the spectacular Tagbo Falls On Friday, 28th February 2025,
According to the MP, this disaster left many families homeless, destroyed properties, and severely impacted key community structures, including the Community Meeting Centre.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, on Monday, 3rd March 2025, he together with his Constituency Executives and a team from NADMO, visited the affected community to ascertain the extent of damage.
“We met with the Chiefs, Elders, and residents, listened to their concerns, and assessed the full scale of the damage”, and as an immediate intervention, MP presented a cash donation to assist affected families.
He also assured the community of his firm commitment to working closely with NADMO and other relevant agencies to facilitate further relief efforts and long-term recovery.
Liati Wote is not just a community; it is a pillar of our district’s tourism industry, attracting thousands of visitors to Mount Afadja and Tagbo Falls each year.
“The damage caused by this storm affects not only families but also businesses, local tourism, and economic activities in our district”, the MP in his facebook post added, while seeking extra support to swiftly restore normalcy and protect the heritage.
“I am calling on government agencies, corporate organizations, tourism stakeholders, and kind-hearted individuals to join hands in supporting Liati Wote. Together, we can rebuild homes, restore community structures, and strengthen the tourism sector that sustains many livelihoods in Afadzato South”.
