The Fisheries Commission of Ghana successfully conducted a four-day training workshop for a new cohort of Fisheries Observers from 24–27 March 2026 in Tema.

The programme focused on strengthening participants’ capacity in Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS), equipping them with the skills needed to effectively combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and support sustainable fisheries management.

Through a mix of technical sessions and hands-on training, participants gained practical knowledge in observer responsibilities, legal procedures, fisheries infractions, and fish sampling and species identification. The training also emphasized professionalism, compliance, and accurate data collection to support enforcement efforts.

By the end of the workshop, participants were better prepared and committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and the sustainable use of Ghana’s marine resources.
