Following the recent torrential rains in many parts of the Greater Accra Region, the MP for Tema West, Lawyer James En,u, has joined the Municipal Chief Executive, Ludwig Teye Totimeh, and key municipal officials to assess flood-affected areas in Tema West.
The Team visited Lashibi, Klagon, Adjei Kojo, Kaiser, Railways, and Baatsonaa, which experienced severe damage due to poor drainage, encroachments, and infrastructure failures.
In Lashibi, misaligned culverts and encroachments worsened flooding; and they recommended realignment, dredging, and new drainage construction.
Klagon saw damage to schools and drains, prompting calls for desilting and rebuilding.
In Adjei Kojo, illegal developments on swampy land and poor drainage led to major flooding; proper culverts and stricter controls are needed.
At Kaiser, flooding at Star Primary and a nearby refuse dump pose health risks—stormwater gutters and waste relocation are essential.
In Railways, the MP said Sakumo Lagoon overflowed due to encroachments; dredging and halting unauthorized structures are urgent.
Baatsonaa experienced collapsed culverts and blocked drains, requiring the demolition of illegal structures and immediate repairs.
He said solving Tema West’s flooding crisis demands coordinated engineering action, strict enforcement of planning regulations, and community cooperation.
“As your MP, I am committed to working with the Assembly and relevant agencies to ensure long-term solutions and a safer, more resilient Tema West, Lawyer Enu added.
