A Group calling itself GaDangme Elites has joined the McDan Group to battle it out with the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) in the ongoing feud between the two over some financial transactions.
In a statement issued in Accra and signed by Nii Kpakpo Zumstara the
Media Relations Officer of The Elites, FIC “must not weaponize its mandate as a tool for intimidation or fishing expeditions under the guise of “intelligence received.”
Few days ago, The Centre has written to McDan Group requesting confidential financial records covering the period January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2024 in according with it’s mandate particularly under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044) but GaDangme Elites in their statement said, FIC actions “cast a cloud of suspicion not only over the company but over the very integrity of the FIC’s processes”.
Below is the full statement:
STATEMENT BY GADANGME ELITES IN RESPONSE TO FIC’S REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FROM MCDAN GROUP
GaDangme Elites, a concerned stakeholder in the integrity of GaDangme businesses find it necessary to respond with utmost concern and clarity to the letter purportedly sent to the McDan Group by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), dated April 2025, requesting confidential financial records covering the period January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2024.
Let it be unequivocally stated: _*he who alleges must prove*_. The FIC, a body established to act within the remits of the law, particularly under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), must not weaponize its mandate as a tool for intimidation or fishing expeditions under the guise of “intelligence received.”
The McDan Group, a proudly Ghanaian institution headquartered in Accra and led by an industrious son of our land, Dr Daniel Nii Nsiah McKorley, has been a beacon of entrepreneurship, job creation, and socio-economic empowerment across Ghana and beyond. The sudden and vague implication of the Group in undisclosed financial irregularities, without reference to specific transactions, entities, or alleged misconduct, casts a cloud of suspicion not only over the company but over the very integrity of the FIC’s processes.
To request “all electronic fund transfers,” “copies of cheques issued,” and “financial institutions used” without citing a single questionable transaction or context is tantamount to harassment. If indeed the FIC possesses credible intelligence of wrongdoing, it must be in line with principles of fairness, transparency, and justice:
1. The exact transactions that are under suspicion;
2. The parties involved;
3. The dates, values, and nature of the transactions;
4. And the specific basis upon which such transactions are believed to violate the law.
GaDangme Elites and indeed all GaDangme people, will not sit idle while legitimate GaDangme businesses are dragged through murky waters without due process. We stand firmly behind Dr Daniel Mckorlwy and the McDan Group and demand that if any wrong is alleged, it must be substantiated clearly, and not cloaked in generalities.
Furthermore, we urge the FIC to respect the legal maxim: _*audi alteram partem*_, let the other side be heard, but do so based on facts, not fishing nets.
McDan has not only built a brand but a legacy. If justice must be served, let it be done transparently, with evidence, not innuendo.
Signed,
Nii Kpakpo Zumstara
