The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey has honoured two long-serving staff of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) for what he described as their integrity, dedication, and positive influence on the institution.
The two, namely Gabriel Otokunor popularly known as ‘O.T.’ and Gideon Lamptey also known as ‘Adodo’, respectively, were honoured on Thursday, 18 December, during a staff durbar organised by the Assembly.
Speaking at the event the Mayor said it was “a profound blessing” when people close to him experience positive change in their lives, adding that some individuals’ abilities may not always be obvious but they remain “deeply sensitive”.
The Mayor first commended his driver, Gabriel Otokunor for consistent admonishment, adding that it served as a form of care and that his advice had been a tremendous help to him, particularly during his first year in office.
He said OT was a long-serving staff member of the Assembly whose career began as a dispatch rider and, through dedication, had risen to serve as the driver to the Mayor of Accra, describing the journey as inspiring to other staff.
The Mayor also praised Adodo, a speech and hearing-impaired staff member, whom he described as a dedicated officer who has served the Assembly for a long time and whose honesty made him a dependable source of “ground truth” on issues in the Central Business District (CBD).
He said when he needed an accurate assessment of conditions in the CBD, he relied on Adodo because, while others might provide embellished accounts, Adodo consistently communicated the truth.
The Mayor noted that although Adodo could not speak or hear, he had an exceptional ability to observe, understand and communicate clearly what was happening in communities, adding that he had become his most reliable source of information.
Based on what he called Adodo’s integrity, dedication and unique skill, the Mayor announced his promotion to Senior Security Guard.
