Michael Kpakpo Allotey, Mayor of Accra, has cautioned traders in the Central Business District (CBD) against giving money to persons claiming to act on his behalf to secure trading spaces.

The Mayor cautioned the traders against falling victim to extortion on Tuesday when he paid an unannounced working visit to Okaishie in the CBD to enforce the Assembly’s red-line policy as part of the ongoing decongestion exercise.

“If you allow people to deceive you and collect money from you with the promise of securing a spot, you will only put yourself at risk,” he warned.

Hon. Allotey stressed that his mandate was not to enrich himself but to ensure orderliness and cleanliness in the city.

“They did not bring me here for money. They brought me here to make sure Accra will be clean and that traders operate properly in the markets, so cars and pedestrians can move freely, ” he explained.

He warned traders to desist from leaving the environment dirty or face arrest.
