The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has called on the public to fully participate in this year’s WOMBA Accra Street Art Festival, describing it as a vital platform for promoting Ga culture, youth empowerment, community pride, and the city’s vibrancy.
Launching the third edition of the festival at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) City Hall in Accra, the Mayor said the initiative had his full support, stressing that it would help redirect young people from negative influences such as drug abuse into meaningful cultural and social activities.
He explained that the philosophy of WOMBA was rooted in pride, identity, and empowerment, which were essential for building a stronger future for Ga youth.
The Festival Coordinator, Mr. Ntiamoah Alex, outlined the week-long programme, beginning with a community clean-up exercise on Wednesday, August 20, followed by a “Night of Light” on Thursday.
He added that the High Street would be closed on Friday evening for a storytelling session at Bannerman Road in Akoto Lante, with music and cultural displays, adding that the weekend would feature street exhibitions, a carnival, and health activities, including blood donation, health screening, and medical support for about 4,000 participants.
